Associate Director Tanya Bakhmetyeva recently returned from Uzbekistan, where she led a graduate workshop on Gender and Science at the University of Chirchik. The workshop was part of an international research project on the history of Soviet glaciology, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
Bakhmetyeva is a key member of the project team, which also includes scholars from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) and the University of Chirchik. Her sessions focused on how gender has shaped scientific practices, institutions, and fieldwork across Soviet and post-Soviet spaces.
Designed specifically for graduate students working on the glaciology project, the workshop introduced critical frameworks for examining the gendered dimensions of scientific knowledge and practice.
