Overview

Established in 2009, the 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳’s MALTS program (master’s degree in literary translation studies) is one of the premiere programs in the United States for students looking for a career in freelance translating or the literary field as a whole. Combining
Distinguished literary translators must be lifelong students of literature and have superior writing skills in English. They must also understand the business of translation. Our master’s degree in literary translation (MALTS) combines academic rigor, strong practical training, and intensive professional development through internships with and other literary presses, the goal of the MALTS program is to graduate with a publishable, full-length book project.

The minimum degree requirement for admission to the program is a bachelor’s degree. Applicants should have significant preparation in one or more literary and linguistic traditions.

All masters theses will be carefully considered for publication by Open Letter Books, and matriculating students are encouraged to be in touch with the press’s publisher, Chad W. Post, before arriving on campus.
