Clusters

The Department of Anthropology offers four clusters, all of them in the social sciences academic division.

This cluster explores the concept of culture as a system of symbols and meanings which give insight into the unity and diversity of humanity.

Students are introduced to the way anthropologists study enduring social institutions such as states, nations, markets, and kinship groups; and systems of stratification imposed on individuals by society such as class, race, and gender.

Students explore global political, economic, and cultural formations through an anthropological lens.

This cluster is a cross-cultural, critical examination of health, illness, and medical systems.
