Skip Greer
Skip Greer is a Geva Theatre Center's Artist in Residence, and the Geva Director of Education. As Artist in Residence in his 21st year, Mr. Greer’s directing credits at Geva Theater Center include Red, The Mountaintop, Last Gas, Freud’s Last Session, Midsummer Night’s Dream, On Golden Pond, Over the Tavern, Almost, Maine, The House in Hydesville, Doubt, American Buffalo, Inherit The Wind, Key West, Death of a Salesman, The Weir, The Triumph of Love, Beast on the Moon, Shakespeare at the Philharmonic, Women Who Steal, Longevity; Abbreviated for those who don't have time, Below the Belt, and Lobby Hero. Last winter he directed Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, an Indiana Repertory Theatre/Geva Theater Center co-production. Other recent directing credits include Velocity of Autumn and Outside Mullingar at the White Heron Theatre Company in Nantucket, Talley’s Folly, Velocity of Autumn with Beth Fowler, Freud’s Last Session and Almost, Maine at the Cape Playhouse, Golf With Alan Shepard at Gary Marshall’s Falcon Theatre with Charles Durning, Jack Klugman, and Paul Dooley, the Shakespeare Santa Cruz production of King Lear, Almost, Maine at Syracuse Stage, and Steel Magnolias at Totem Pole Playhouse with Melissa Gilbert.
Skip has acted in numerous Geva productions, including To Kill a Mockingbird (Atticus), Clybourne Park, You Can’t Take It With You, Superior Donuts, Music Man, Evie’s Waltz, Our Town, Hamlet, 1776, Art, 12 Angry Men, A Girl's Life, The Illusion, Every Good Boy Deserves Favor, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, State of the Union and House and Garden.
Mr. Greer is also Director of Education at Geva Theatre Center, responsible for creating, implementing and overseeing educational programming (including The Geva/SUNY Brockport Alliance. The Stage Door Project, The P.L.A.Y. Program, Prologue, The Hornets’ Nest and 25 other programs serving over 40,000 participants, and 20,000 students annually). He is in his 15th year of teaching at the 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳, and is a regular lecturer at SUNY Brockport, Nazareth College, and RIT. Mr. Greer facilitated theatre education tours throughout the world (Europe, Africa, Asia, India, New Zealand, Australia, and across the United States) with the Global Youth Academy and the Traveling School as they garnered 6 prestigious Golden Bell awards for excellence in education. He was chosen “Master Artist” with the California Arts Project 1990-1995. Master Artist duties included teaching teachers and developing statewide curriculum in the arts for elementary, secondary, and university levels. He facilitated institutes at Chico State University, California State University – Northridge, San Jose State University, and the Marin County Office of Education. Mr. Greer participated in developing standards for California’s Artist/Educators and twice taught Leadership Academy for California Educators.
