Clinical Psychology
Faculty Accepting Applications
Graduate students in our program work closely with one or more faculty members, who serve as primary mentors for their students' research projects and professional development. The following faculty are interested in mentoring new graduate students for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Admissions Criteria
We encourage applications from candidates with a baccalaureate degree, as well as from candidates with graduate work in psychology and related disciplines. A baccalaureate degree awarded no later than the summer preceding the anticipated entry semester is a requirement for admission.
Applications are not considered for the spring semester. An undergraduate psychology major or equivalent coursework is usually expected.
The admissions committee bases its decisions on a combination of the applicant's:
- Research and personal experience
- Academic record
- Statement of Purpose
- Letters of recommendation
- GRE General Exam (GRE scores are not required for the Fall 2025 admissions cycle and will be deemphasized in our admissions process)
Interviews
Some, but not all, candidates are invited for a personal interview, which will also be used to evaluate an applicant.
Experience
The committee values evidence of the applicant's scholarly potential as well as comments by endorsers concerning the applicant's potential as a research psychologist and as a teacher. Prior experience in psychological research is given strong weight.
The committee also considers evidence of maturity, interpersonal skills, and experience in applied settings (e.g., psychiatric hospital, community mental health centers, contact with patient populations or interview experience in research roles).
Statement of Purpose
The committee considers carefully the applicant's statement of aims to assess the match of his/her interests with program faculty and resources. Therefore, it is important for applicants to be as specific as possible about their research and training, and to specify the faculty member(s) with whom they would like to work. Because of the limited number of graduate student appointments made and the many applicants who meet or exceed these standards, it is not possible to offer admission to many outstanding applicants.
GPA and GRE
There is no minimum GPA or GRE requirement, but typically only students with excellent academic records are admitted. On the other hand, high GPA or GRE scores do not ensure admission.
GRE scores are not required for the Fall 2025 admissions cycle. Faculty will be deemphasizing them in the admissions process and evaluating applications with a holistic approach.
Diversity
We strongly encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, including members of minoritized and historically bypassed racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and first-generation college students. The Clinical Psychology Program is devoted to promoting diversity within our field, and to supporting our students from diverse backgrounds. We actively promote a culture of inclusion and respect for differences in race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, family status, and disability. Once on campus, myriad departmental and university programs are aimed at providing support and resources to facilitate the success of all students. In particular, the is dedicated to supporting low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresened minority students.
Writing Sample and Other Documents
Applicants may choose to upload additional documents to support their application. These documents include but are not limited to:
- Writing samples
- Past publications
- Information about extenuating circumstances that may have impacted your academic experience
These documents are not expected nor required, but may be incorporated into admissions decisions if they are submitted.
