Language Courses

Modern Languages and Cultures teaches elementary through advanced levels of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish as well as elementary through intermediate Korean, Polish, and Portuguese. In addition, conversation, reading, and composition courses are regularly offered, as are language courses for native speakers and literature, culture, and film courses taught in the target language. MLC also administers Summer Study Abroad programs in Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Russia, and Spain which are part of our MLC clusters, majors, and minors.

Why study a language?

  • A language sequence makes a great humanities cluster (see our clusters overview page).
  • Language study is an ideal double major for business, science, social science, and humanities concentrations.
  • Study language in MLC, then study abroad for a summer or semester.
  • Proficiency in another language distinguishes you from peers competing for the same jobs or post-graduate study opportunities.
  • Studying a foreign language is one of the most rewarding things you will do as an undergraduate. And it's fun too!

Where will all this take you?

  • Arezzo, Italy
  • Berlin, Germany
  • Granada, Spain
  • Procida, Italy
  • Quito, Ecuador
  • Rennes, France
  • Seoul, Korea
  • St. Petersburg, Russia

Students can also intern abroad for the summer through programs offered by the Educational Programmes Abroad (EPA) or study abroad for a semester, summer, or year through the .
