The UR Cinema Group is a student group that shows movies every Friday and Saturday night throughout the semester in Hoyt Auditorium. The group shows a mixture of popular movies, indie flicks, and older films.

The Undergraduate Film Council is a hub for all aspiring filmmakers on campus. Despite being an academic council, we in no means limit membership to only Film Majors. Our goal is to provide the 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ community with an opportunity for filmmakers to get together and discuss the latest advances in filmmaking, to teach about and promote the art of filmmaking on campus. To view, discuss, and create film, as well as offer guidance and support to all those on campus who want to learn how to function as part of a film crew and/or see their creative visions brought to life on the big screen.

Museums and Other Local Cultural Resources


The George Eastman Museum is the world’s oldest photography museum and one of the oldest film archives. The museum has a great collection of online and houses both the and the .


The University’s Memorial Art Gallery features a gallery of more than 12,000 objects. It offers a panorama of the world’s art, showcasing more than 5,000 years of art and art history. Admission is free for 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ students.


The 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Contemporary (RoCo) is a non-profit serving the culturally and artistically diverse audiences of Western New York State. RoCo encourages the redefinition of contemporary art through its gallery and satellite exhibitions, educational programs, film and lecture series, performance art, and various multi-media initiatives.


A non-profit organization funded by the Monroe County operating as an independent entity under the umbrella of the Greater 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Visitor's Association.


Internationally recognized as a center for media studies, including photography, visual books, digital imaging, film, and video, the Visual Studies Workshop serves artists and the general public with diverse programming in education and exhibitions.

Film Festivals


The High Falls Film Festival is an annual international film festival showcasing work by women in film and video working in all positions of the film production process.


The longest-running independent film festival in the United States, the 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ International Film Festival is held annually at the Dryden Theater.


The largest Jewish cultural event in western New York, this festival screens more than 25 films of Jewish interest at the George Eastman Museum’s Dryden Theatre and The Little Theatre in downtown 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳.


ImageOut presents LGBT arts and cultural experiences showcasing films and other creative works to promote awareness, foster dialogue and build community.
