Chemistry Students Help Make University History
April 10, 2023
For the first time in the University’s history, each of our students that was nominated for a Goldwater Scholarship was selected!
The Goldwater Scholarship is one of the most prestigious undergraduate STEM scholarships and is only awarded to students that the scholarship’s foundation believes are likely to become the next generation of scientific leaders.
One reason that this award is so competitive is that each institution can only nominate four students for consideration. Around 5,000 students were nominated nationwide, but only 413 were selected.
This past year, the 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ nominated four students from Arts, Sciences & Engineering, including three chemistry majors, and all four of them received a Goldwater Scholarship!
Big congratulations to Derek Chien '25 (chemistry/bioethics double major), Kathleen Hall '24 (environmental science major; chemical engineering minor), Margaret Scholer '24 (chemistry/environmental science double major), and Hope Silva '24 (chemistry major) for this amazing achievement and for making University history!
