Dan Weix invited to attend Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium

November 13, 2013

Professor Daniel J. Weix was invited to attend the 25th annual held November 7-9, 2013 in Irvine, California. The 80-100 attendees were selected from among recipients of prestigious fellowships, awards, and other honors, as well as from nominations by NAS members and other participants. They are a group of distinguished scientists under 45 who have already made significant contributions in their fields. Since the symposium's inception in 1989, more than one hundred fifty of its "alumni" have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, and ten have been awarded Nobel prizes.

Jointly sponsored by the US National Academy of Sciences and The Kavli Foundation, the Kavli Frontiers of Science bring together some of the very best young scientists to discuss exciting advances and opportunities in their fields in a format that encourages informal collective, as well as one-on-one discussions among participants. These are highly interdisciplinary symposia emphasizing communication of a wide range of contemporary science topics across the traditional disciplines. Unlike meetings that focus on a narrow area of science, this annual event allows participants to explore innovative research ideas across a variety of fields and to develop new networks that will serve them as they progress in their careers.

Professor Weix found it to be one of the most interesting meetings that he has ever attended, with session topics ranging from “asteroids to deep learning to dolphins and nuclear fusion.” For more information about the Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium please use the link on the right.
