Why did you choose the 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳?
I chose the 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ for its size, international student population, and cluster system. Since this is my first time studying in the U.S. I really wanted to be somewhere I wouldn't feel lost. Coming to a school with a vast international student body has also made cultural adjustment and building an identity easier, as it is something we've all had to go through. The University has created an environment where we feel comfortable sharing our cultures and learning from others. Lastly, I found the cluster system very interesting because it allowed me to explore my interests with flexibility.
Why did you choose to major in business?
I chose to major in business to get exposure to subjects like accounting, computer information systems, and finance, beyond my Financial Economics degree. Several of the business courses I've taken have strengthened my analytical skills and have encouraged me to think across industries and countries.
What has been your favorite undergraduate business course and why?
My favorite undergraduate business course was Principles of Marketing. Despite being online, our professor was able to use class activities and Zoom in a way that made participation exciting. We were also asked to complete weekly simulations which put us in the position of making marketing decisions for a business to help meet its goal. I feel all components of the course were really thoughtfully designed to immerse us in the subject.
What are your activities outside of class?
Outside of class, I work as a Barista at the on-campus Starbucks. I also served as a D'Lion and International Student Mentor in my sophomore year. I was also able to spread my passion for Finance as the Finance Chair of the FEC from Jan-Dec 2020 and as a CETL tutor for several business and economics courses.
Have you completed any internships?
I worked as a Sales and Marketing Intern at Art House, a start-up that was initiated by an alum. Our goal was to reach out to art collectors and market our online platform, where they can purchase art from local artists on a subscription basis.
This summer, I have accepted an offer to work as Financial Analyst at Sandoz, the generics branch of Novartis.
What are your career goals?
After graduating, I want to continue working in the field of corporate finance or banking with goal of further developing leadership and quantitative skills. I want to regularly apply my education by engaging in financial reporting, planning, and modeling activities. With enough work experience, I would like to enroll in a Master's Program to broaden my view of business beyond an organization, have the opportunity to expand my business network, and to specifically work on management and strategic thinking skills.
What is your favorite spot on campus? Robbins Library
Starbucks order: Green tea latte with mocha
Favorite 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ restaurant: Le Petit Poutine
What has been your go to quarantine outfit? Jeans and oversized t-shirts
What is one positive thing that has come from the pandemic for you?
My friends and I have been more open with sharing when we're feeling low, and our responses have helped us see how much we care for each other.
What is one piece of advice you would tell your past self the summer before starting at UR?
Plan ahead, but allow your interests and goals to change!
