Professor Xuwen Chen has been awarded a to support his research into quantum many-body dynamics.

Quantum many-body dynamics explores emergent properties of huge numbers of interacting quantum particles and holds the potential for advancing quantum technologies that could lead to new capabilities in computing, communications, and sensing, among other scientific and industrial applications.

Chen’s project focuses on explaining the movement and behavior of fluids with complex equations. Specifically, he seeks to understand how large-scale properties of fluids, such as pressure and viscosity, emerge from the interactions of countless tiny particles.

The project uses advanced mathematics, including techniques from areas like harmonic analysis and probability theory, and involves working with students and postdoctoral researchers.

In other news, a paper co-authored by Professor Alex Iosevich has been selected for a “Best Paper Award in Mathematics” from the International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians.

A presentation of the paper, titled On Falconer’s distance set problem in the plane, is scheduled to take place at a gathering of the organization in January 2025.
